Website “Youth Opposition in the GDR”

Website on Opposition of Young People in East Germany, GDR

Commissioned by the Federal Agency for Political Education and Robert Havemann Society, Berlin, is a German multimedia website focused on resistance and opposition of young people against the repressive East German government.

Facts & Files was responsible for fact checking of exposé and script. We conducted research on documents, pictures and footage, produced texts and interviewed eye-witnesses.
Based on eye-witness accounts, the website describes daily life and political opposition of teens and young adults in the German Democratic Republic. Footage, pictures, and audio files document topics as the 1976 expatriation of Wolf Biermann, a famous singer-songwriter, the peace community in Jena, Thuringia, the Environment Library in East Berlin and the Revolution in October 1989.
