Cataloguing of Objects at the GDR History Museum Perleberg and Museum Concept

Facts & Files was commissioned with cataloguing objects and drafting a museum concept.

The GDR History Museum in Perleberg in the Prignitz region was founded by the local pastor Hans-Peter Freimark and his wife in 2006. we were commissioned to catalogue the core collection and draft a museal concept to develope the museum further.

From April to September 2023, a team from Facts & Files inventoried the collection. According to previously formulated criteria, objects relating to the Perleberg region, Hans-Peter Freimark’s work as a pastor and the Freimark family’s opposition activities in the GDR were identified and catalogued. A collection strategy and recommendations for the future organization and design of the museum were drafted in the museum concept.

The project was supported by Museumsverband des Landes Brandenburg e.V. and Beauftragte des Landes Brandenburg zur Aufarbeitung der Folgen der kommunistischen Diktatur (LAkD). and funded by Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur, Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur des Landes Brandenburg and LAkD.

More Information on the Founding of the GDR-Museum Perleberg

A project by students of Free University Berlin and Leibniz-Zentrum für Zeithistorische Forschung Potsdam produced a website on the founding of the GDR-Museum in Perleberg in 2020. Four public history students from Free University Berlin and a two-person film team from Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences digitized and preserved knowledge about the exhibition at the GDR History Museum in Perleberg in a documentation and interview project.
