UNESCO World Heritage at the rivers Saale and Unstrut
The Naumburg Cathedral is a structure that has remained to a great extent unchanged in its late Romanesque/early Gothic use of forms. Also the landscape of the rivers Saale and Unstrut is an important dominion in the High Middle Ages. It was submitted as a proposal to be on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee was on hold until 2017, when it was considered to nominate the Naumburg Cathedral alone.
Facts & Files was writing a study on the history of the dominions in the High Middle Ages, which was part of the proposal. Facts & Files was commissioned by the Förderverein Welterbe an Saale und Unstrut e.V. in Naumburg. Our study was finished in 2012.
In 2018, the UNESCO added the Naumburg Cathedral to the World Heritage List.
