Crowdsourcing platform for the transcription of digital material from Europeana.eu
Transcribathon.eu is a crowdsourcing platform for the enrichment, such as transcription, annotation and geo-referencing of historical documents available through the Europeana Collections Portal.
The idea behind the tool is to utilise the sources in a better way by deciphering and transcribing the texts and linking them to an image. With each transcription made, one also compete with other users. The progress advances further in the race to become a champion in the Transcribathon. The website is free to use, and open to all members of the public. Join the race now at www.transcribathon.eu!
Transcribathon.eu has been redeveloped and enhanced with new functionalities by the partners of the Enrich Europeana project. It will be specially designed to enrich content from Europeana Collections.
The transcription tool Transcribe e1914-1918 was developed by Facts & Files and Olaf Baldini as a prototype to transcribe content from the portal Europeana 1914-1918. The development of the transcription tool was funded by the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).
In order to make better use of the documents available at Europeana1914-1918.eu a new transcription tool was developed. To test the tool Facts & Files organised a workshop at the Highschool Primo Levy Gymnasium in Berlin-Weißensee. It was launched on November 7, 2016 at the Europeana Network Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Riga. A Transcribathon competition started there as well. For details please see here.
