Berlin will be the eights place of the running. Cyclers at Leidseplein in Amsterdam will be the Berliner's comrades in virtual reality.
The #BigArtRide project is part of the Europeana280 campaign to launch the Europeana Art History Collection and celebrate the 2016 Dutch Presidency of the EU. The event is organised jointly by Europeana.eu, the Dutch design studio DROPSTUFF.nl, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid), and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Choice of the German Museums - Read the Blog on the Selection
The German museums selected for Europeana280 masterpieces of the Renaissance as the "Sistine Madonna" by Raphael http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2063623/GER_280_007.html , the painting "Self-Portrait with Fur-Trimmed Robe" by Albrecht Dürer http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2063623/GER_280_001.html and "The Fountain of Youth" by Lucas Cranach http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2063623/GER_280_003.html .
The book "Hortus semper virens" ("The indeciduous or bloomy Garden" was published by the phyisian and botanist Johann Simon Kerner beginning in 1795. http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2063623/GER_280_008.html It is a botanical reference book (delicately pictured) on plants. The book is one of 15 works nominated by libraries and archives for Europeana280.
Berlin and Brandenburg museums distributed three works of art to Europeana280. Along with the Cranach painting "The Fountain of Youth" from the Gemäldegalerie Berlin are the collage "Dada-Review" by Hannah Höch from the Berlinische Galerie http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2063623/GER_280_004.html and the painting by Klaus Killisch "Tango bis es weh tut", created in 1988, from the collection of the dkw. Kunstmuseum Dieselkraftwerke Cottbus http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/2063623/GER_280_012.html.

The Online Exhibition Faces of Europe
Faces of Europe is a unique online exhibition showcasing a selection of the Europeana280 treasures. It features iconic masterpieces by artists such as Goya and Mantegna alongside brilliant works by less famous names.
Every fortnight from now April July, Europeana will publish a new chapter of Faces of Europe on Europeana Art History Collections, the curated gateway to the artistic collections of European museums, libraries and archives. Each of the seven chapters to come will explore a different aspect of Europe’s artistic heritage through the eyes of artists and their inspirations. Today, we offer you a glimpse of the exciting journey ahead.
